The Joy of Summer Reads

An unusual injury led to Serena's head being bandaged up, thus preventing us from too many outdoor activities for the first part of this gorgeous summer. Good time to pick up a few good summer reads!

"How to Save Your Tail" by Mary Hanson was good but so short that Serena devoured it in one sitting, so back to the library we went. That's when we discovered "The Doll People" by Ann M. Martin and Laura Godwin. It's a 3-book series illustrated by Brian Selznick, author of "The Invention of Hugo Cabret". Both of us liked the story so much we were taking turns hogging the books.  "Are you done yet?"  "Which chapter are you on?"  "Is it my turn??"

Serena is now finishing "The Memory Bank" by Carolyn Coman, another book that is beautifully illustrated similar to the genre of Brian Selznick's books that leave lots of room for readers' interpretation. This one's got a very interesting premise and deals with some philosophical issues regarding memory and dreams.

After "The Memory Bank", we're ready to switch gear and start reading a new fun series called...  perhaps we'll wait and tell you more when we're done.
